Explosive breakout detector
Meant to flag explosive upside breakouts; as written it never fires on real bars, so the line stays at 0.
Meant to flag an upside breakout: a close more than 0.5% above the highest high of the last window bars, with the close up over the last 3 and 8 bars, a 3-bar gain above 0.8%, and volume above volume_threshold times its window average. It returns 1 when all four hold and 0 otherwise. As written, the highest high includes the current bar, and a close cannot sit above its own bar's high, so the breakout test never passes on real bars.
How to read it
- The line sits in its own pane below the price and is 0 on nearly every bar.
- A 1 would mark a breakout bar, but on SPY one-minute bars for September 2026 it was 0 on every bar after warm-up.
- A flat line at 0 here means the breakout test cannot pass. It does not mean the market is quiet.
What it outputs
- Breakout flag
- 1 when all four breakout tests pass on a bar, 0 otherwise. Drawn as a number in its own pane, not as markers on the candles.
Settings
- window
- Sets how many bars the resistance high and the average volume look back over. The output stays 0 at any value on real bars, so the line does not visibly change as it moves.
- volume_threshold
- Sets the volume multiple the bar must exceed versus its window average. Lowering it passes the volume test more easily, but the price test still blocks every bar, so the line stays at 0.
Pitfalls
- The breakout test cannot pass: the resistance includes the current bar's high, and a close never sits above its own high, so no preset fires the indicator on normal bars.
- The output is typed numeric but holds only 0 or 1, so read it as a flag, not as a level.
- The ATR input only gates the first bars for warm-up; it does not change the value.
