Explosive reversion signal
Scores stretched moves outside the Bollinger band with a volume spike; it stayed at 0 on SPY in September 2026.
The indicator checks each one-minute bar for a stretched move: the close is outside its Bollinger band, the RSI and short rate of change are pushed the same way, the close sits well away from the fast average, and volume and ATR spike against their recent averages. A higher level needs both momentum readings and bigger moves, while level 3 needs only one momentum reading. It returns 0 when no level is met, and the slow average is read but does not change the value.
How to read it
- The line sits in its own pane below the price, not on the candles.
- 0 is no signal. A value of 3, 4 or 5 marks a stretched move on that bar, and higher is stronger.
- On SPY with default inputs it stayed at 0 for a full month, so a flat line is the normal reading.
What it outputs
- Reversion signal strength
- 0 means no setup. 3, 4 or 5 mark a stretched move with a volume and ATR spike, higher meaning stronger. The value never reads 1 or 2 and carries no direction.
Pitfalls
- Rare at default settings: on SPY one-minute bars for September 2026 it read 0 on every bar with a value. It exposes no settings, so the thresholds stay as coded.
- The bounce test compares each close with a history that already holds that close, so it is normally false and level 5 is effectively unreachable.
- When both momentum readings are extreme but volume misses the level 4 bar, the level 3 test is skipped, so the value reads 0 even when the level 3 volume bar is met.
