Exponential momentum accelerator
A 0 to 1000 score for rising momentum, faster acceleration and volume or range expansion. It gives no direction.
Each bar gets a 0 to 1000 score from five tests, and each test adds points only when it passes. Returns over the default 2, 5 and 13 bar lookbacks all positive add up to 400, momentum rising adds up to 300, that rise speeding up adds up to 200, volume above 1.5 times its 10 bar average adds up to 150, and a high-low range more than 10% wider than the prior bar's adds up to 100. The total is capped at 1000, and the 'exponential' in the name comes only from fixed weights of 3, 2 and 1 on the fast, mid and slow terms, not from an exponential curve.
How to read it
- The line sits in its own pane below the price, from 0 to 1000. A flat zero means no test passed on that bar.
- In September 2026 SPY one-minute bars, the median was about 56 and 95% of bars came in at or under 250, so a reading above 250 is rare.
- A high reading needs several tests at once: returns up over all three lookbacks, momentum rising, that rise speeding up, volume above 1.5 times average, and a bar range over 10% wider than the one before.
- The score has no smoothing and can jump, then fall back on the next bar, so read a run of high values rather than one peak.
What it outputs
- Acceleration score
- Momentum acceleration score from 0 to 1000. It adds points for five tests that pass together, and 0 means none passed.
Settings
- fast
- Bars back for the fastest return. It keeps weight 3 whatever its length, so raising it turns the fast test into a longer move. At 1 it reacts to every bar and turns noisy.
- mid
- Bars back for the middle return. It carries weight 2 in the momentum test and in both the rising-momentum and speed-up tests. Raising it widens the middle window; lowering it makes those tests track faster moves.
- slow
- Bars back for the slowest return. It is used only in the momentum test, at weight 1, and must be positive with the other two. A larger value demands a longer-running uptrend; a smaller one passes after a short bounce.
- vol_window
- Bars in the average volume each bar is compared with, the bar itself included. Shorter tracks the last few minutes and lets a volume surge lift its own baseline quickly; longer gives a steadier baseline that a surge stands out against.
Pitfalls
- The largest block of points needs all three returns positive, so readings lean toward rising prices. The score says a move is strong, not which way it goes next.
- The volume and range tests judge one bar at a time, so one noisy bar can add up to 250 points by itself. The bar's own volume is also in its average, which dampens a spike.
- The multipliers are hand-set, so a reading of 200 is not twice as strong as 100, and levels from different symbols are not comparable.
