Price acceleration
Mostly 0; scores sharp upward gains and V-shaped rebounds over 3, 10 and 20 bars, 0 to 5.
The indicator compares the current close with the closes 3, 10 and 20 bars earlier. It adds one point for each gain above 1%, 1.5% and 2%, and two more when the closes 20, 10 and 3 bars back fall in that order with the current close above the close 20 bars back. The name says acceleration, but the two-point bonus is really a V-shaped rebound out of a short slide, and the fixed thresholds are large for one-minute bars: the score was 0 on at least 95% of sample bars and never went above 2.
How to read it
- The line sits in its own pane below the price and takes whole values from 0 to 5.
- Flat at 0 is the normal state; on the sample month it was 0 on at least 95% of bars and never passed 2.
- Each point is one test passed: gains above 1%, 1.5% and 2% over 3, 10 and 20 bars; the rebound shape adds 2.
- The first 20 bars of the chart stay empty at default while the history fills.
What it outputs
- Acceleration score
- Whole-number score from 0 to 5 for sharp upward gains and V-shaped rebounds over 3, 10 and 20 bars.
Settings
- short_period
- Bars back for the 1% gain test and the first step of the rebound shape. Raising it widens the window, so the 1% gain is reached more often. Lowering it toward 1 leaves only the last bar's move, which almost never reaches 1%.
- mid_period
- Bars back for the 1.5% gain test and the middle step of the rebound shape. Raising it makes the 1.5% gain easier to reach. It must stay strictly between short and long: equal values switch off the +2 bonus.
- long_period
- Bars back for the 2% gain test and the far end of the rebound shape. It also sets the warm-up: the first long_period bars stay empty. Raising it makes the 2% gain easier to reach but delays the first score.
Pitfalls
- Flat at default is the normal state, not a dead feed: the 1%, 1.5% and 2% gains are large for 3 to 20 bars of one-minute SPY, so the pane sat at 0 on at least 95% of sample bars.
- The name says acceleration, but the +2 bonus needs closes 20, 10 and 3 bars back to fall in that order with the current close above the close 20 bars back. A steady rally never earns it.
- Short or mid above long_period breaks parity: the Python path reads that gain as 0, while the compiled path reads wrapped older bars, so the two can disagree.
