Trend exhaustion
Shows 0.7 during strong trends (ADX above 40); its exhaustion tests do not work as named.
TrendExhaustion checks three conditions on each bar: ADX above 40 (a strong trend), RSI above 75 or below 25 (an extreme reading), and ATR above 1.5 times its average (a volatility spike). It outputs 1.0 when all three hold, 0.7 when the first two hold, and 0 otherwise. The RSI input runs from -1 to +1, so its test always passes, and in practice the 0.7 level means only a strong trend.
How to read it
- The line sits in its own pane below the price and is 0 on most bars.
- A 0.7 means ADX is above 40 on that bar, a strong trend in either direction.
- 0.7 stretches last as long as ADX stays above 40, so they run in blocks, not single bars.
- The 1.0 level is on the scale but does not appear on this chart with default settings.
What it outputs
- Exhaustion score
- 0 when no strong trend, 0.7 when ADX is above 40, 1.0 only with an ATR spike, which this chart never produces.
Pitfalls
- Looks broken: basic.RSI runs from -1 to +1, so the RSI test always passes while the 75/25 thresholds assume a 0 to 100 scale.
- The 1.0 level never appears on this chart: atr_avg has no default, so the chart feeds it the close price, and ATR stays at about 0.1% of price at most, far below the 1.5 spike ratio.
- Named exhaustion, but nothing checks for a turn: a bar at 0.7 says the trend is strong, not that it is about to end.
