Absolute value
The distance of the value from zero: negative values turn positive, positive values stay as they are.
Abs drops the sign of its input. On the default close it changes nothing, since prices are positive, so the line overlays the candles. It earns its place on inputs that cross zero, such as a price change or MACD, where it gives the size of a move without its direction.
How to read it
- On the default close the line sits on the candles exactly.
- On a change or an oscillator it reads as the size of the move, up or down alike.
What it outputs
- Absolute value
- The input with its sign dropped; on the default close, the close itself.
Pitfalls
- On prices it changes nothing; feed it a change or an oscillator to see an effect.
