Inside bar breakout down event
Marks a bar that closes below the low of the inside bar right before it: a bearish break of a tight range.
An inside bar is a candle whose high stays below the previous candle's high and whose low stays above the previous candle's low, so its whole range sits inside the candle before it. This event looks one bar later: it fires when the next bar closes below the low of that inside bar. It tests only that close against that level, with no trend, volume or follow-through filter.
How to read it
- A marker sits on the candle that closed below the inside bar's low, one candle after the inside bar.
- The inside bar itself is not marked: look one candle back to find the tight range that was broken.
- On the Sept 2026 SPY one-minute sample it marks about 31 bars per day, so read each marker as one level break among many.
What it outputs
- Breakout down
- Marks each bar that closes below the low of the inside bar right before it.
When it fires
On the bar whose close falls below the low of the inside bar that came right before it. The inside bar is one candle earlier and is not marked. It reads as a bearish break of a tight range, with no check on later bars.
Settings
- confirm_days
- Consecutive break bars required before a marker. At 1 (default) every break is marked. At 2 or more nothing is ever marked, so the chart goes empty: a break bar cannot also sit inside the bar before it.
Pitfalls
- The confirm_days parameter is broken: any value of 2 or more hides every marker, so it looks like a filter but cannot be used.
- The rule has no trend, volume or follow-through filter, so the sample shows about 31 markers per day on one-minute bars.
- The tests are strict: an inside bar that only touches the prior high or low does not count, and a close exactly at the inside bar's low does not mark.
