Three drives reversal buy sell
Never marks anything: its breakout test compares each close with a 100-bar range that already includes that close.
The sell side needs three closes within eps of the 100-bar close high, with a dip of at least pullback below that high or a touch of the 100-bar low between each. It then waits for a close below the 100-bar low, and the buy side mirrors this at the bottom. The range is the Donchian indicator over closes, not highs and lows, and the breakout test uses a window that already contains the current close, so no close can pass it and both outputs stay empty at every setting.
How to read it
- Buy and sell are markers drawn on the candles where they would fire. The indicator draws no line or pane, and the drive count is never drawn.
- Buy (index 0) follows three visits to the 100-bar close low; sell (index 1) follows three visits to the 100-bar close high. On a one-minute chart the window is 100 minutes.
- The chart stays empty at default settings and at any setting, because the breakout test cannot pass. An empty chart is the expected reading.
What it outputs
- Buy
- Would mark a buy after three visits to the 100-bar close low, once a close clears the 100-bar close high. It never marks: a close is always inside its own 100-bar range.
- Sell
- Would mark a sell after three visits to the 100-bar close high, once a close falls below the 100-bar close low. It never marks, for the same reason as buy.
When it fires
Would fire on the first bar of a close beyond the opposite 100-bar edge, held for confirm_days bars, after three visits to the extreme. It never fires at any setting: a close cannot be above a 100-bar high that already includes it, or below a 100-bar low that does.
Settings
- eps
- How close a close must sit to the 100-bar high (sell) or low (buy) to count as a drive. Raising it accepts looser touches; lowering it needs near-exact ones. No value produces a marker, since the breakout test cannot pass.
- pullback
- How far the close must pull back from the high (sell) or bounce off the low (buy) between drives. Raising it demands deeper pullbacks; lowering it accepts shallow ones. It cannot make a marker appear.
- confirm_days
- Consecutive bars the breakout must hold before a marker. The breakout never occurs, so no value changes the chart.
Pitfalls
- The breakout test and its 100-bar range share the current close, so a close above the high or below the low is always false. Both outputs are structurally silent, not merely quiet at defaults.
- On SPY one-minute bars, 1 Sep to 1 Oct 2026 (20,160 bars), both outputs fired zero times at defaults. A synthetic run at eps 0.2 and pullback 0 also gave zero.
- The channel is built from closes over 100 bars, not highs and lows, despite the Donchian name.
